Technology

Overview
Technologically advanced and exclusive to Avenues, CCAvenue is a Payment Service Provider (PSP) based system that offers simple e-commerce transactions authorization solutions for Indian eMerchants. CCAvenue is based on three key technologies: Java, Enterprise Java Beans, and the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). Developed by Sun, Java was selected by Avenues because it is an ideal language for component-based applications. Java was developed mainly for use on the Web, both for public Web sites and Intranets.

Java is a programming language, similar to C++, but, unlike C++, is able to release memory when no longer required. The source code of a Java program is complied into a temporary language called "bytecode," which is interpreted by a Java Virtual Machine into machine code when run. Since there are a variety of "interpreters", Java programs are not dependent on any specific hardware, and can run on any computer with a Java Virtual Machine. Therefore, Java generates applications that can run on all hardware platforms: small, medium and large. This technology helps CCAvenue create a system, which easily processes transactions of customers, around the world, 24 hours a day, from a simple browser and authorizes the same in real time through multiple payments gateways and more than a half a dozen Net Banking interfaces.

Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs)

EJBs are deployable components - think of them as large, coarse grained function components that can be used either as is (they have enough "depth and breadth," for example, to support a meaningful business function) or they can be combined with other EJBs into larger applications.

Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)
A set of standards has been defined that encompass the "rules" necessary to enable server-side computing in Java. This is called the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). J2EE provides a platform independent, portable (write the code once and run it on many different machines), multi-user, secure platform for developing enterprise class applications. J2EE simplifies many of the complexities surrounding the creation of scalable, component based applications.

Hardware and Encryption Standards

Deployed on high performance Windows 2000 original IBM x series servers, each having Dual 2GHz Xeon DP 512KB cache CPU's, 1 GB 133MHz SDRAM ECC DDR RDIMM II memory, three 18.2 GB Ultra 160 SCSI HDD and ServeRAID 5i with Dual Ultra320 SCSI controller, designed specifically to handle demanding e-business applications, Avenues provides a truly world class solution. The powerful Verisign 128 bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption is used on every transaction received by CCAvenue. The SSL is an industry standard protocol adopted by the Internet community to provide secure transmission for private information being sent over the Internet.

CCAvenue Developed Advanced Technologies
CCAvenue is the first payment gateway in the world to provide the feature of instant SMS order alerts. The CCAvenue.com e-payments solution is linked via a VPN based gateway to BPL Mobile and Orange for delivery of SMS order alerts. Avenues has also installed products and processes to pre-empt credit card fraud and advice merchants on how to forestall charge backs. An in-house CCAvenue Risk Management team of experts, review each transaction with specialized outsourced and in house developed soft wares and negative Databases. The team diligently scrutinizes each and every transaction within a set of parameters and on suspicion, raise and flag the fraud risk on the particular order and also obtain manual verification if so required. Avenues shall also be shortly implementing the 'Visa 3D Secure' protocol and 'MasterCard Secure Code' protocol. This new technological initiative by VISA/MasterCard is aimed to completely eliminate online fraudulent transactions.

CCAvenue has used the above cutting edge technologies to offer a gamut of easy to use payment collection facilities for the eMerchant to choose from

Conclusion
Avenues has followed a very specific path of integrating the highest quality available industry tools and technologies (Java Beans, Enterprise Java Beans, and the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)) that are backed by some of the largest names in the business. Although the CCAvenue system is designed with the best industry standards in terms of technology it can be integrated into the simplest HTML website with easy. This ensures Avenues has a system that can meet the challenges of the ePayments marketplace today and in the future.
