Authorize and Capture with CCAvenue!
15th October, 2011 - Mumbai, India
CAvenue is a multi-dimensional solution that is brimming with uber effective features that will help enhance your business. One of these features is 'Authorize and Capture'. This facility has been designed especially for eMerchants like you, to assist you in managing your transactions. Once a transaction has been authorized, then we hand over the reins to you. With this facility, you can confirm transactions, delete transactions and even partially accept transactions. This feature will prove to be an asset for you and will work in your favor.

Take for example if a transaction worth Rs.1,00,000 from your website is directed to the payment gateway and is authorized in real-time, then it means that an amount of Rs.1,00,000 has been blocked from your customers credit card limit for a period of 13 days. If your customer has a total credit limit of Rs.4,00,000 in his credit card, then the amount of Rs. 1,00,000 will be blocked for your transaction for a period of 13 days from the time of the transaction on your website. After carrying out the transaction on your website, your customer will have only Rs.3,00,000 as balance credit card limit. This Rs. 1,00,000 that is blocked for 13 days will not be reflected in his Credit Card statement until and unless you 'capture' the order from your CCAvenue account backend.

This transaction that has been authorized will be valid for a period of 12 days only, until you 'capture' the same. If your business model requires that you capture the amount before you actually ship the order and your customer is agreeable to the same, then you may do so. If you fail to capture the said transaction within a period of 12 days, then the amount of Rs. 1,00,000 is restored into your customer's credit card and the transaction stands cancelled. You cannot block your customer's card forever. This facility helps Merchants in a way that if they want to cancel or do partial capture within 12 days of the receipt of the order, then they do not have to pay any cancellation charges of 5% on the cancelled amounts. Before the introduction of this facility, merchants had to pay cancellation charges for orders they could not fulfill. Please note that in cases where the customer has selected the net banking option for payment the transaction amount in case of a successful transaction is immediately debited from his account. The options available to you are:

Custom made shopping cart
Pending
By default, the transaction is kept on 'Pending' mode, and remains so for 12 days, to enable you use any other option. If you fail to use any of the options, then the transaction is deleted automatically from the entire system.
Shipped/Order Executed
When you select the 'Shipped/Order Executed' option, only then the transaction is captured, your customer's Credit Card is charged, and your account is credited.
Cancel
In case of some unforeseen reasons, you are unable to fulfill your customer's orders, you can utilize the 'Cancel' option and the entire transaction is cancelled. With CCAvenue, no cancellation charge is to be borne by you. Most of the other Indian Payment Gateway Providers charge a hefty 4% to 5% of the transaction amount as cancellation charges
Partial Execution
Also, if you are able to execute the order partially, only the desired partial amount will be charged to your customer's Credit Card and the balance will be cancelled. No cancellation fee, with regards to the cancelled amount, will be charged to you.
Please note that we recommend that you access the 'Pending Orders' section regularly and capture orders keeping in mind that orders are kept pending for only 12 days inclusive of the date of placement of the order. At the close of the 12th day (i.e. on the 13th day), the order is automatically cancelled by the system. In case an order paid through credit cards is cancelled within the 12-day period of capture then transaction charges will not be applied to that order. However, in case of transactions paid using the net banking option the TDR will still be applicable as the cancellation of that order amounts to a refund.

Register with CCAvenue and let the 'authorize and capture facility' start working for you!
